IEG has been a pioneer and leader in the innovation and evolution of Geothermal HVAC Systems since 1992. We have designed and implemented numerous Geothermal Heat Pump installations including both new construction and retrofit projects for various school districts in the North Texas area.
We have reviewed and monitored various campuses to validate designs and implementation. We have consistently seen a 25% to 40% reduction in energy costs for these installations. These savings were still recognized at the numerous campuses that had areas, such as locker rooms and gymnasiums, not previously conditioned.
In the Fall of 1999 we completed the Birdville High School - the largest School Project (dollars) in the State of Texas as well as the largest Public School Geothermal Project in the United States at that time. The Geothermal HVAC Package for this project (with Energy Recovery Ventilators) came within the budget allocated for a Central Plant configuration. Reductions in Energy Usage of approximately 30% - 35% less than the originally proposed Central Plant are being realized.
In addition to the Energy Savings, other intangible benefits of the Geothermal Heat Pump Systems as designed and implemented by IEG include:
- No rooftop or ground mounted equipment to be damaged by vandalism, hail, etc.
- Cleaner site and building lines as minimal equipment surrounding or on building
- Increased Humidity and Indoor Air Quality control. Geothermal Heat Pump Units have approximately 50% more latent capacity (moisture removal capability)
- Longer equipment life cycles. Units are not running at temperature extremes or trying to start on a hot roof under load.
